DataCloud Launches Breakthrough Technology Solution Creating Step-Change Productivity and Profitability Improvements for Mine Operators Worldwide

DataCloud’s RHINO™ Geoscience Logging Tool Uses IoT Sensors and Seismic-While-Drilling Techniques to Enable Differential Blasting, Significantly Improving Fragmentation Profiles

May 2, 2018 – Seattle, WA – DataCloud, the geosciences technology innovator that enables mining companies to master the subsurface and drive profitable growth, today announced that it is launching RHINO™, a breakthrough geosciences logging tool designed for the global mining industry. RHINO™ uses advanced Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, seismic-while-drilling (SWD) techniques, and artificial intelligence (AI) to measure previously unavailable rock properties in real-time.

With the extremely high resolution rock data generated by RHINO™, mine operators can now develop and optimize differential blasting plans that produce significantly improved fragmentation profiles, driving greater productivity and profitability. DataCloud is unveiling its new RHINO™ solution during the Canadian Institute of Mining (CIM) 2018 Convention & Expo that will be held May 6-9 at the Vancouver Convention Centre, Vancouver, BC, Canada.

“DataCloud is building transformative technology like RHINO™ to empower mining companies to materially improve their performance and productivity so they can own the future,” said Thor Kallestad, CEO and Co-Founder of DataCloud. “RHINO™ is a game-changer because it significantly improves blast fragmentation by providing the previously unavailable geoscience insights required to optimize blast hole spacing, explosives loading, and detonation timing decisions.”

“By combining best-in-class cloud, IoT and AI technologies into powerful, proven mining solutions, DataCloud is developing the geoscience measurement techniques and processing workflows that we believe represent the future of highly productive and more environmentally-aware data-driven mining,” added Kallestad.

RHINO Leads New DataCloud Product Offerings

The compact RHINO™ sensor package can be installed in minutes and is configured to be “plug and play” ready within DataCloud’s MinePortal™ platform. The RHINO™ sensors are deployed on drills and collect measurements at 1-centimeter increments in drilled blast holes, far exceeding the resolution possible with conventional measurement-while-drilling (MWD) technology. Once the RHINO™ rock information is processed, interpreted and made available for visualization on DataCloud’s MinePortal™ platform, it is available for blast planning and/or export via browser, mobile device, or API.

In addition to RHINO™, DataCloud is also unveiling several other mining technology products during the CIM 2018 Convention & Expo, including:

MinePortal™ – DataCloud’s MinePortal™ platform is a cloud-hosted, 4-D earth model that receives and integrates exploration drill data, block models, MWD information, Images, and RHINO™ data, in addition to cutting edge grade control measures. By using AI-driven technology to analyze all of this critical data in real-time, MinePortal™ enables mine operators to make better, faster drilling and blasting decisions that deliver significant productivity improvements.

DigitalGeology™ -- DataCloud’s new DigitalGeology™ solution is a turnkey 3-D image processing and interpretation solution that provides mine site geologists and engineers an intuitive method of understanding fracture networks and block size distributions in their rock.  DigitalGeology™ allows mine operators to quantify key geological parameters and optimize blast planning, thus drastically improving productivity.

RockMaster™ MWD – DataCloud’s industry-leading MWD solution is a computational suite of algorithms that function within DataCloud’s MinePortal™ Upon receiving raw MWD data on the MinePortal™ platform, The RockMaster™ algorithms identify and discard erroneous data and calculate blast-critical rock properties in real-time.

DataCloud will be exhibiting in booth 1444 at the CIM 2018 Convention & Expo in Vancouver.
